Sri Lanna National Park
Topography
Sri Lanna was announced 60th national park of Thailand on 1 August 1989. It coves 1,408 square kilometers areas in Mae Taeng, Prao and Chiang Dao districts of Chiang Mai province.
The park is surrounded by the valleys and a mountain chain lying north to south.
The park feeds the streams which in turn drain water into Mae Ngad reservoir and the Mae Ping river.
The mountainous park is covered with mixed deciduous, moist evergreen, hill evergreen and Dipterocarp forests. Anisoptera costata, Toona ciliata, Hopea odorata, Tectona grandis, Xylia kerrii, Shorea obtusa, Shorea siamensis and other Dipterocarp species are found here. Wildlife include tiger, barking deer, serow, bear and wild pig.
Tourist attractions
Mon Hin Lai waterfall in the middle of the jungle, Mae Ngad reservoir where people can go for a boat ride along the scenic forest lines, Yen fountain and waterfall are popular spots in the park.
Accommodations and facilities
The park provides a campground but tourists have to bring their own tent and equipment.
How to get there
After leaving Chiang Mai take the highway no. 1001 to Amphur Prao. At km. 79 mark (Ban Pradu in Tambol Maepung of Amphur Prao), there is a turn-off route to the west which leads to the park's headquarters and Mon Hin Lai waterfall.
