Climb Mokoju mountain (1964 meters) in Mae Wong national park (November to February)

Mae Wong national park map Day 1 (D)
In the morning meet at your place in Bangkok at about 0900Hrs. We will leave Bangkok for a 370 km or 5.5 hours trip to Mae Wong national park. We will pass Ayutthaya, Ang Thong, Singburi and Nakhon Sawan (the meeting place of Ping and Nan rivers forming Chao Phara river). You will have your lunch on the way. After Nakhon Sawan we will be heading north-west to the forested hills of western Thailand.

Arrive at the headquarters in the afternoon. We will get our camp ground, pitch our tents and prepare a delicious dinner. Make friend with the ranger guides from the park office. Overnight in the tents.

Day 2 (B.L.D)
Breakfast at the camp site. Equipment check and prepare the packing. We have to bring the stuff ourself. The park office will provide only the guide. Each member of the party have to carry their shared load: tents, sleeping bags, their own back pack, food and other gear, etc. Start the trek at about 0930Hrs, hiking up and down the many hills through the mixed forest. We will also pass streams and get wet. Lunch is on the way. Today we will walk about 15 km to get to a place beside Mae Krasa stream, where we will pitch the tents. Have dinner and sleep in tents.

Day 3 (B.L.D)
Wake up and finish the morning business. After the jungle breakfast we will start hikking again at about 0830Hrs. Two hour trek will take us to a point at Mae Riwa stream, where we will set up a camp. Prepare the lunch to eat. From this place we will go for a trek to Mae Riwa waterfall. The round trip to this waterfall will take about 2hours. We will spend the night in this place. After the dinner sleep early to create energy for the next day's attempt to the summit.

Day 4 (B.L.D)
After the breakfast we will continue the trek at about 0800Hrs. Today climb is the hardest 8 hours ascent to the peak. Before getting to Mokoju peak we will pass 4 hills, the first three are covered by mixed forest. Before the fourth hill there is a stream where we can fill up our containers. We will set up our camp on the slope of Mokoju. From the camp it would be about 20 minuates climb to the peak of 1964 meters above sea level, the highest in the park.

From the summit we can have views of Klong Lan forest (in the north), Umphang forest (in the west), Huay Kha Khaeng forest (in the south-east) and Mae Wong forest (in the east). For dinner and overnight we will get back to the camp.

Day 5 (B.L.D)
Jungle breakfast. We will hike down. Lunch will be prepared and eaten at Mae Ki stream. Continue trekking to a place at Mae Krasa stream for pitching the tents. Dinner and sleep at the camp.

Day 6 (B.L)
Jungle breakfast. At about 0900Hrs leave the camp and hike for the park's headquarters. Lunch is on the way. We should arrive at the headquarters at about 1500Hrs. Wash up and clean up. We will then say good bye to the park's guide (ranger) and take the van car to Bangkok. You will have your own dinner at a restaurant on the way. Arrive Bangkok around 2200Hrs.

We will provide
1. One air-con van car transport round trip: Bangkok - Mae Wong national park headquarters - Bangkok
2. Guide (forest ranger) from the national park headquarters
3. One staff going together (speaking Thai and English)
4. Two-men tents, sleeping bags, things for cooking
5. Mae Wong national park entrance fee
6. Food: rice and simple soup with vegetable and canned fish (or fish catched from the stream), bread and hot drink, boiled and / or filtered water for drinking
7. Travel accident insurance

Note: Since this is a moderate to difficult walk you need to be excellently fit. You have to carry the things. Total trekking distance is about 60 km. There is no well defined trails to the peak. There are many streams to pass. Booking have to be done at least one month ahead.
